1. If I don't live near a Gobrussels outlet how can I buy an electric scooter?
We have a free national delivery service anywhere on the UK mainland. Simply telephone our national sales enquiry line +32 2 6750882.
2. Does an electric scooter need an MoT?
Yes. MoTs are required on the third birthday (day of registration) of any new electric scooter. Thereafter they must pass a yearly MoT.
3. Are the scooters completely maintenance-free?
Practically. Since the scooters do not have an internal combustion engine, this saves extensive servicing and maintenance. The motor, controller and battery pack are all sealed.
4. How much does it cost to tax an electric scooter?
Nothing - they're exempt.
5. If I don't need a CBT should I have one?
ScootElectric recommends all scooter newcomers take their CBT, which will cover handling, road positioning, safety checks, emergency stops, braking and U-turns.
6. Where can I park?
Most towns and cities have free parking for scooters. Often there are permanent fixings to which you can secure your scooter. Try to secure your scooter via the back wheel.
7. Is my electric scooter safe to ride in the rain or snow?
It is safe to ride in the rain but you should reduce your speed according to the conditions at the time. We would not recommend riding any scooter in snow or ice.
8. Can I take a passenger on my electric scooter?
You can but it will seriously impair performance and range.
9. How long do the batteries last?
It all depends on the type of journey you have and how well you maintain your scooter. Charge it up wherever and whenever you can - you don't have to wait until you've drained the charge - and you'll see the benefit in longer battery life. Typically, lead acid batteries last up to 400 cycles while nickel-zinc batteries last twice as long.
10. Are the batteries guaranteed?
Yes, for six months (sealed lead acid gel) or for two years (sealed nickel-zinc gel).
11. I live in a hilly area. Does that make a difference?
Electric scooters work best where the terrain is fairly even. They can tackle quite steep hills but at reduced speed and with an impact on range. Bear that in mind when choosing your model.
12. Does riding with the lights on affect the range?
Yes but not much - allow a 5-10% reduction.
13. Is it okay to charge from a multi-socket?
Yes, but you'll need to leave it charging for longer
14. Isn’t a quiet scooter a danger to pedestrians?
As with a regular pedal bicycle, it is the responsibility of the rider to ride with due care and to avoid pedestrian collisions. The e-scooters are indeed quiet and therefore riders must take responsibility for the safety of those around them. There is a loud horn and we encourage riders to use it for audible warnings regularly and appropriately.
